RV road trip planner: Planning an RV trip takes time as you want to make sure you are going to destinations that offer plenty of great sights to see for all ages as well as great campgrounds. Many of RV Adventure-USA’s customers start and end their trips in Las Vegas picking up or returning their RV, or stay for one-night enroute to their next campground. Las Vegas is more than a gambling town.
If your RV road trip planner adventure takes you to Las Vegas, Nevada, try to plan to stay a couple of days as there is so much more to see than just the famous Strip. There are many unique venues and activities in Vegas and these hidden gems get overlooked so often. Having lived in the Las Vegas area for over 6 years, I’ve listed a few of my favorite off Strip activities that are worth a visit.
AREA 15 – an indoor entertainment district with dozens of interactive exhibits – virtual and reality – even ziplining and flight simulators. There is axe throwing at Dueling Axes (all ages welcome), Illuminarium will immerse you in the beauty of the world (exhibits change often), Liftoff – a panoramic skyline experience (ages 13+). What makes Area 15 so popular is Omega Mart, an exhibit for all ages that sends participants on a journey through surreal worlds, immersive storytelling and playful nuggets of the imagination. Parking can be difficult, consider a taxi or Uber if you don’t have a tow vehicle.
LIONS HABITAT RANCH – a retirement home for lions previously seen at MGM exhibit. Since it’s opening in 2012 it has become home to other exotic animals as well. Aside from the General Admission, you can do a private Behind the Scenes Tour and Feed the Animals Tour.
10am-2pm (closed Tuesday and Wednesday)
RED ROCK CANYON – Just outside of Las Vegas is Red Rock Canyon, famous for its stunning red rock formations, the canyon is full of color and texture. There is a Scenic Drive that takes you past all the overlooks and hiking trails. Hiking trails are clearly marked and easy to follow. You can explore on your own or go with a guide. You can take your RV but parking will be a challenge. (https://escapeadventures.com/tour/las-vegas-red-rock-hiking-day-tours/)
BOULDER CITY & HOOVER DAM – Hoover Dam is one of the most iconic and popular tourist attractions in the country and it is a short drive from Las Vegas. You can do a self-guided or guided tour of the Dam. There is RV parking at Hoover Dam for all size RVs. Boulder City is an adorable little town with lots of cute cafés and antique shops. https://www.usbr.gov/lc/hooverdam/

VALLEY OF FIRE STATE PARK – Another great option for those looking to explore nature. This park is located just north of Las Vegas, and features some impressive rock formation, petroglyphs, a historic ranch and even a lost city museum. It is also home to some unique features such as natural arches and balancing rocks. RV friendly. https://parks.nv.gov/parks/valley-of-fire
NEON MUESUM – One of the best things about Las Vegas that never gets old is all the glittering lights. At the outdoor neon sign museum you can walk through and view all the vintage neon signs from the golden days of Las Vegas. https://www.neonmuseum.org/
SPRINGS PRESERVE – a 180 acre cultural institution designed to commemorate Las Vegas’ dynamic history and to provide a vision for a sustainable future. Features an array of exhibits, galleries, trails, entertainment and gorgeous desert gardens that are fun and educational for all ages. https://www.springspreserve.org/
